If you are in the Tulsa area and you are looking for a good group ride to jump in on, we leave the Tom's Bicycles Parking Lot (68th & Peoria) at 9 AM on Saturday and 1 PM on Sunday. It's race season, so you may get dropped, but you won't get left...
The Tall Chief Road Race is 2 weeks away, so we will incorporate parts of that course on our Saturday ride. Since we have done this one a few times this winter, I decided to spice up the route and include Cincinnati Hill on the ride back into town. There will be one rest stop in Skiatook (approx. 25 miles into the ride) and we will regroup in the school parking lot after Cincinnati Hill.
Sunday will be a little warmer, but we will have a more significant South wind. After the climbs on Saturday, it seems prudent to head South on Sunday. Nothing fancy here. Just the standard Hectorville route with a rest stop at the convenience store in Hectorville (approx. 20 miles into the ride).

Race Results
I am late in reporting this, but last weekend marked the first race of the year for Team Tom's. (That opening statement might not be accurate because I think some Tom's racers have participated in MTB races already in 2012.) In addition to the Mineral Wells Stage Race marking the start of the race season it also was the site of our first 2012 Podium. Congratulations to Amelie Seneker who placed 2nd in the Women's Cat 4 Road Race.
To keep track of Team Tom's Bicycles 2012 podium finishes. I have added a new list to the right panel of this blog. If you make the podium this year, please let me know so that I can add it to this list.

Ride Plans for 2/18 and 2/19
Note: I really need to do some additional posts on this blog besides just ride plans...
The wind is out of the North this weekend and the Tall Chief road race is only 3 weeks away. This means we will ride out to Skiatook and return on Lake Rd. (If you prefer a flatter route, you can return to Tulsa on the same route we ride out to Skiatook.) We will use this route on Saturday and Sunday.
We roll out from Tom's Bicycles (68th and Peoria) at 9 AM on Saturday and 1 PM on Sunday.
On a side note, good luck to everyone heading down to Mineral Wells, TX to race this weekend.

Ride Plans for 2/4 and 2/5
We are trying something a little new for our weekend rides, so be sure to check out this more extensive post on what you can expect. There is a 38 mile, 50 mile, and 65 mile option and we will be riding the routes counterclockwise on both Saturday and Sunday. There is no scheduled rest stop for the 38 mile ride but the 50 and 65 mile rides will stop at a convenience store in Mounds, OK.
Saturday's ride departs at 9 AM and Sunday's ride leaves at 1 PM. All rides leave from the parking lot of Tom's Bicycles at 68th and Peoria. I hope to see you there.

Training and Racing
I am not sure what the deal is, but this is my third blog post this week. No way this productivity will be matched again this year. I read two articles today that I thought were worth sharing.
The first one is another gem from Michael Barry as he describes his experience at training camp. You might not like it, but I can't read this without thinking that the weekend group rides should be a little harder...
A Team and a Leader
The second article has some "bad" language in it, but it is a hysterical read. Never before have I read something that so perfectly describes an amateur bike race. Tip of the hat to KitOrder for sharing this one.

Tulsa: It's a Bike Town
Looks like this is the first video of several that will explore "why we ride bikes". I spy a new member of Team Tom's in the video.
