Earlier this week I planned on writing a post about how I was done talking about "off-season" training and that it was time to start "getting serious". Apparently Mother Nature wanted something else to say about that, so I am once again snowed in. This weekend I will fight a range of emotions that will include depression, anxiousness, boredom, and solitude all because I can't get out and ride. But there is some good news...
The UCI Cyclocross World Championships are taking place this weekend and you can watch the Elite Men's race on Sunday, January 31 at 11:00 AM CST thanks to UniversalSports.com. The World Championships are taking place in similar conditions to what we are experiencing in Tulsa, OK. So, not only will we be able to relate to the conditions, we might even get motivated to bundle up, grab the mountain or cross bike, and go for a ride (or at least get motivated to drink a beer and eat some frites like the spectators will be doing).
Cyclocross is growing in popularity year-after-year and it is expected to really catch on in the United States. In fact, Louisville, Kentucky has just been named as the location for the 2013 World Championships.
So get on your trainer, do some stretching, work on your core strength, shovel your driveway, watch the world championships on-line, or have a drink. Just be sure to do something that keeps you in a good mental state as we have a long season ahead of us and plenty of time to truly suffer.
